Meadvale Karate Club started in 2009. It began as a karate based self-defence class originally for mums and their daughters in Reigate. We used karate techniques to learn how to keep safe whilst out and about. As the members wanted to progress further and formalise their training we became an official Karate Club and continued using traditional Shukokai/Shitoryu karate practises and techniques.
Over the years we have had students from many walks of life through our doors, from absolute beginners to those who have trained in other martial arts and enjoy our Club ethos. Some students have joined having suffered some form of assault or trauma and have appreciated regaining confidence.
We now have 4 classes running. Mondays Class (from 4.15-5.15pm) enables students to come straight from school.
We run 3 classes on Wednesday evenings. The earlier two are for children from age 5 to around 14 years old. The later class (8-9pm) is for adults and higher grade Juniors. There is no upper age limit for training at our sessions – we have a significant number of adults at our classes.
All new students are assured of a warm welcome.
About the Sensei
Fiona began her karate training in 2003 and discovered that it was a sport that would not only keep her fit but would be very useful in everyday life.
She has successfully competed in Regional and National competitions in Kumite and Kata categories.
Fiona has a special interest in practical self-defence and has held Self-Defence Courses in workplaces as well as for groups of individuals. She also teaches Karate and Self-defence in schools and colleges in and around Reigate.
In addition to Karate training, she also practised kick-boxing and has attended courses on Swordsmanship, Weapons Kata and the use of Pressure Points.
She presently holds the rank of 1st Dan awarded in 2009 by an international karate organisation. She is also qualified with a Diploma in Personal Training.
Fiona has a clear enhanced DBS certificate, holds a 1st Aid certificate and also Public and Professional Liability Insurance.
