About Us

Meadvale Karate Club started in 2009. It began as a karate based self-defence class originally for mums and their daughters in Reigate. We used karate techniques to learn how to keep safe whilst out and about. As the members wanted to progress further and formalise their training we became an official Karate Club and continued using traditional Shukokai and Shitoryu karate practises and techniques.

Over the years we have had students from many walks of life through our doors, from absolute beginners to those who have trained in other martial arts and enjoy our Club ethos. Some students have joined having suffered some form of assault or trauma and have appreciated regaining confidence.

We now have 5 classes running. Mondays Class (from 4-5pm) enables students to come straight from school. We run 4 classes on Wednesday evenings. The earlier two are for children from age 5 to around 14 years old. The later class (7.30-8.30pm) is for teenagers and adults of lower grades. The 8.00-9.00pm is for higher grades. The classes overlap so that all the seniors can train together for half an hour before the higher belts then focus on more specific skills. This fosters a more tailored training for each level whilst maintaining cohesion amongst the senior students. There is no upper age limit and we have a significant number of adults at our classes.

All new students are assured of a warm welcome.
